Exhibition collection neatly mounted and beautifully written up in Portuguese on 128 album pages (8 frames). The collection is arranged in five sections as follows: 1) 1866-67 Dom Luis I - Curved Label - Imperforate Pages 2 to 28, showing the only known proof for presentation, with three unapproved essays & two approved, by Charles Wiener.
Other items of importance are 5rs colour essays, mint & used blocks of many of the values, 80rs strip on cover from the Azores, 100rs mint pairs & used block of six, and the 120rs complete used sheet less one, being the largest known used multiple 2) 1867-70 Dom Luis I - Curved Label - Perforated Pages 29 to 45, showing 5rs mint blk of four, double impression varieties, 10rs used on booklet paying the book post rate, plus a fine array of mint & used blocks for almost all values & an fine array of cover with mixed issue frankings 3) 1870-76 Dom Luis I - Straight Label Pages 46 to 109, showing 5rs to 100rs double impressions of the colour & embossing varieties, 15rs the unique moulding essay, fine array of different papers including wove, ribbed & chalky, also perforated as well as imperforate.

Extensive specialisation with mint, used, multiples, imperfs. & a fine array of covers. 4) 1878-80 Dom Luis I - Straight Label - New Colours Pages 110 to 122, showing 150rs imperf pair, plus mint multiple of most values as well as some useful covers 5) 1870-76 Dom Luis I - Straight Label - New Colours & Values Pages 123-128, showing 20rs proof in complete sheet, plus mint block of six, the rare 1000rs imperforate, two used strips (one with telegraphic star cancellations), plus some useful covers. TIENTSIN: 1875 Cover to Dereham, England, franked with 1866-75 10k strip of four and 3k pair, tied by three clear strikes of dateless double-framed "TYAN-TSZIN. POCHT. KONT." (Tientsin Post Office) hs, with Kyakhta transit adjacent dated 1 May 1875, the letter having left Tientsin about two weeks earlier, showing Moscow transit and Dereham arrival bs. Postage of 46k represents pre-UPU rates of 30k for conveyance to the Russian border at Kyakhta and 16k for onward transmission from Russia to England. Earliest known mail from the official Russian Postal Administration in China, using Russian canceller on Russian stamps, and only known use of Tientsin's first Russian handstamped canceller on cover. The Jewel in the crown of the Russian post in China Note: Illustrated in the BJRP nos.18 (1955) and 71 (1991) and "The London Philatelist" Nos. 1151-52 (1988)- The "Kyakta Type 2" of Tchilingirian & Stephen, "Stamps of the Russian Empire used Abroad" pt. 4 (1959), 9.312, said to be based on the cancellation on this cover, is a fantasy, showing posthorns at foot instead of the fleuron depicted herin.

World record price for a modern indian stamp!

On May 19th, 2011 David Feldman sold a 1948 10 Rupee Mahatma Gandhi stamp of India for a World Record price of EUR 144,000 (US$ 205,000); this is the highest price ever paid for a single Indian stamp (smashing the previous 2010 record set by the 4 Annas “Inverted Head” error). Additionally it is also believed that this sale possibly represents a World Record price paid for a modern stamp from any country.

The stamp, probably the finest remaining example out of only 18 known in existence today, was issued by the Government of India as a set of 4 commemorative stamps on August 15th, 1948 as a tribute to the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi, who was assassinated in January of the same year . These were the first commemorative stamps of Independent India, and issued in 4 denominations – 1 1/2 / 3 1/2 / 12 Annas, and the 10 Rupees. A set of only 100 10 Rs. stamps (in two sheets) were overprinted with “Service”, making these the world’s least printed stamp.

In the same auction session, part of a fabulous Grand Prix winning collection of covers of Indian stamps used in Burma, attracted interest from all over the World. During a tense period of bidding, the collection was sold for a total amount of EUR 672,000 (US$ 957,000).
