Hong Kong Post’s Tamar Development Project stamp issue

A “Tamar Development Project” stamp sheetlet was released for sale with associated philatelic products on 15 December 2011 (Thursday).

The Tamar Development Project covers the design and construction of the new Chief Executive’s Office, the Central Government Offices, the Legislative Council Complex, an extensive open space and two elevated walkways. Hongkong Post issues a stamp sheetlet to commemorate this important landmark project. 

Based on four concepts – door always open, land always green, sky will be blue and people will be connected – the architecture of the buildings reflects the Government’s notion of governance and the people’s vision of the city:

“Door Always Open” – representing Hong Kong’s image as a city always open and receptive to new ideas and representing diverse cultures;

“Land Always Green” – representing the aspiration for injecting greenery into the urban Hong Kong;

“Sky Will Be Blue” – representing the development’s commitment to promoting a less polluted future; and “People Will Be Connected” – representing the enjoyment of the public on the Tamar site and the surrounding waterfront through convenient pedestrian connections.

The stamp sheetlet gives expression to the above four concepts ingeniously in the style of contemporary art. The purple and blue blocks in the backdrop form the Open Door, with the Green Carpet rolling out in the front for people to walk on leisurely while birds fly high up in the Blue Sky. The architecture of the buildings blends naturally with the cityscape, resulting in a picture of harmony. In the top right hand corner, viewers can take a closer look at the Chief Executive’s Office, Central Government Offices, as well as the Legislative Council Complex, and admire their magnificent and modern design. The background colours of light and dark blue on the stamp set off the day and night scenes of the building cluster.
