Gordon Eubanks, a technology industry pioneer, stamp collector, researcher, and author has donated a major gift to support the National Postal Museum’s expansion to create the William H. Gross Stamp Gallery (www.postalmuseum.si.edu/StampGallery).
The Smithsonian and the U..S. Postal Service recently signed a lease agreement for the additional space to build the gallery. This new space will be added to the museum’s existing 65,000 square feet and is scheduled to open in early 2013.
“Gordon’s generous support will help us showcase the world’s greatest museum collection of stamps and philatelic objects,” said Allen Kane, director of the museum. “As an accomplished collector, he understands the true joy that stamp collecting brings to millions of people around the world.”
“I was happy to have the opportunity to contribute to a project that introduces new audiences to stamp collecting in such a remarkable space,” said Eubanks. “The design of the new gallery is incredible and will be a great place to showcase the museum’s extraodinary collection.”

The National Postal Museum is devoted to presenting the colorful and engaging history of the nation’s mail service and showcasing one of the largest and most comprehensive collections of stamps and philatelic material in the world. It is located at 2 Massachusetts Avenue N.E., Washington, D.C., across from Union Station. The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (closed Dec. 25).
