The XXII edition of the National Youth Philatelic Exhibition by Spain

The XXII edition of the National Youth Philatelic Exhibition (Juvenia 2011) took place this year in the Pósito building in Santa Fe (Granada) from the 12 to 17 April.
Juvenia is held every two years and has become the most important event in youth stamp collecting. The program, as in previous editions, includes besides the exhibition, workshops, seminars and other activities to promote and encourage stamp collecting.
Juvenia 2011 is organized by the Philatelic and Numismatic Society of Granada. It is a competitive exhibition for young collectors aged 10 to 21 who are members of federations associated to FESOFI. Each edition there is a foreign guest whose members can also take part in the competition. This year the guest is France.
National Youth Philatelic Exhibitions aim at raising awareness of the exciting, educational and varied world of stamps amongst young people since they are the foundations of future stamp collecting. Alongside the exhibition of their collections, these young people can participate in all cultural activities scheduled within the framework of this XXII edition, be it philatelic lectures, guided tours and stamp presentations.
In Santa Fe’s history there are three milestones: October 2 1491 when the city’s restoration works end (on July 14 of that same year it been destroyed by a fire) on November 25 1491 with the signature of the capitulations for the surrender of Granada, and on April 17 1492 when the contract is signed in Santa Fe between the Catholic Monarchs and Christopher Columbus which will result in the discovery of America. These three events took place in the Real de Santa Fe. In forthcoming centuries the people of Santa Fe enjoyed many privileges and it became one of the most important towns of Spain’s Golden Age. This is attested by the presence of monasteries and the council.
The stamp depicts elements allusive to the historic and monumental centre of Santa Fe and the Capitulations, alongside with logos and text relating to Juvenia 2011.
