Brazil 90 reis black, Early Impression on yellowish paper, the tremendous mint block of twelve from the First Composite plate, State A, positions 2-5/8-11/14-17, in a marvellous deep shade, with full horizontal marginal line at top and at base with further 7 millimetre margin below. Top right stamp with closed tear and the block with minor ironed bends most especially on the right, but of absolutely no significance and which do not detract from the stunning appearance, especially when compared to the only other recorded block. Illustrated in José Kloke “Die Ochsenaugen” on page 24 and in “Bulls Eyes” by Brookman on page 17 (described therein as ‘magnificent’). One of the great rarities of Classic Philately. Copy of Cert. Holcombe (1994) and Moorhouse (2013). Provenance: Collection Bellido; Guinle; Newbury; Hubbard (May 1986), lot 2088. Dealer Corinphila stamp auction Auction Minimum Bid: 30000.00 CHF (app. 24249 EUR) (via Philasearch.com: 182nd - 185th Corinphila Auction - item 4-A182-3312)
