David Feldman SA is honoured to announce the auction of two fantastic properties, both famous Grand Prix winners. The British Guiana Collection from John E. du Pont. - June 27 at 3:00 pm CET The collection includes over 200 individual items with mint, used, covers and several great rarities. It features many items from the collections of famous philatelists such as Ferrari, Hind, Burrus and Caspary, and comes to the market almost 30 years after last being seen on display and over 50 years since the last significant auction of British Guiana stamps. The collection spans the pre-stamp period, the famous primitive “Cotton Reels” of 1850, through the various issues up to 1889, including British Post Offices and Official stamps. The collection includes now fewer than 33 “Cotton Reels”. To put this in to perspective, the Royal Collection has 20 examples and the Tapling Collection (in the British Library) has only 15. The major rarities of this issue featured in the auction include: 1850-51 2c rose of which less than ten are known 1850-51 4c pale yellow on cover, thought to be the only known single usage The British Guiana collection was the greatest achievement of the collector and enabling John E. du Pont to win his 5th Grand Prix award which ranked him third in the list of multiple Grand Prix winners. The Tasmanian Collection formed by Koichi Sato of Japan. - June 27 at 10:00 am CET The collection won the National Grand Prix in Australia in 1999 and was judged again fourteen years later at the Melbourne International Exhibition (2013) where it won the Grand Prix d’Honneur. This award is given for the best collection among collections that have already achieved the highest awards!
