Russia 1782-1917 Imperial Postal History collection, written up exhibition style (mostly in English) on pages, starting with pre-philatelic, covering the various outposts of the Russian empire, including Poland, Russian Far East including China, numerous comments by postal clerks and officials, uncommon destinations and more. There are 309 exhibition pages, with 554 covers, folded letters, parcel cards, postcards, money orders, stationery entires, neatly arranged in order with pre-philatelic single straight-line handstamps, numeral postmarks, railway markings, maritime, fieldpost offices (covering Russo-Turkish Wars, Russian Corps in China, Russo-Japanese and First World Wars), Temporary post offices (Fieldpost on maneuvers). Another section deals with special postmarks and those include payment marks, “time of day” arrival handstamps (some from overseas), registration markings, routing and delayed delivery, “damaged in transit,” addressee search and unable to deliver postmarks (insufficiently paid, franked up to destination, without charge, paid, unpaid, handwritten markings and special labels indicating “from postbox” and more). Some of the highlights include 1766 St.Petersbourg to Pernau (Dobin certificate), 1793 Moscow to Tambov, 1851 Kyachta to Tambov (Melnikov and Liapine certificates), dozens of earliest known or “unrecorded” markings. There are three Russian Number 1 on letters (from Tauroggen to St. Petersburg; Brest to Riga and Tula to Tver); Poland Number 1 (Warszawa to St. Petersburg, Lublin to Warszawa), Russian stamps used in Poland (Nowy Dwor to Novo-Gieorgievsk), card from Petropavlovsk (Kamchatka), border post offices, with another Kyachta letter used in 1882 to Moscow, Railway postmarks (1858 St. Petersburg to Moscow and Moscow to St. Petersburg, “DW” (Droga Wiedenska) and “DB” (Droga Bydgoska), and others. There are also additional 80 covers and cards, not mounted, with some interesting items.
