China, 1878 Large Dragon 3ca. brown-red [19], large holes perforations, showing plate flaw of Dragon’s lower left claw broken, cancelled by Peking seal which leaves the variety clear, very fine and rare. Chan 2var. Estimate 5,000 - 6,000 This variety is believed to emanate from Setting II, since there have only been five positions (based on multiples) determined to be from this Setting. The large hole perforations are only found in Settings I and II, and since the Dragon’s claw is only found undamaged in Setting I, the broken claw variety, previously attributed to Setting III, can now actually be classified as belonging to Setting II.
