RARE EAGLES 70c-RATE COVER TO FRANCE WITH 1st-TYPE NOUMEA “PORT DE FRANCE” C.D.S.; 5 Apr. 1864 env. (very slight faults; mainly on reverse) to Lorient with Eagles 40c Orange (4 good margins) + 10c Brown Strip of Three (good to wide margins all round) all tied (by indentation & onto cover) by mainly fine Noumea dotted diamonds with very fine matching rare 1st-Type “PORT DE FRANCE/NOUV. CALEDONIE” cds and boxed “PD” nearby as well as fair red Marseilles “V. SUEZ…” cds, having a v. fine Lorient arrival backstamp (13 June). One of less than 10 Eagle covers believed to exist with this 1st-Type cds and of Exhibition Quality. (Estimate 2000 GBP)
