Romania 1868/70: The famous cover bearing 3 bani violet, horizontal strip of three and tri-sected 3 bani, used to pay the 10 bani single rate on 1872 cover to Bacau, all stamps tied by two strikes of the JASSY / SERA datestamp (25/2) in black (Kiriac fig. 468) with framed ‘P.D.’ alongside. Reverse with 'Bacau / Posta’ arrival cds (27.2.72) in black. The strip with scissor cuts in margin only between the stamps is of no significance, this being one of the three trisected 3 bani frankings known to date (the other two were also auctioned by Corinphila, sale 194, lot 5138 and 5139; all three covers were used from Jassy. A splendid cover in fresh and fine quality. A major classical rarity of Romania for the connoisseur. Illustrated in Heimbüchler II on page 294. Cert. Heimbüchler (2014).
