India, 1929 (Nov. 4), Imperial Airways India - Great Britain FDC of India’s First Airmail Set, each stamp a marginal single, cancelled Park Street, Calcutta, Nov. 4, with designer G. Grant’s signature on each selvage piece; cachet of four-propeller biplane with “India - Great Britain/by Imperial Airways/Via: - Bagdad, Gaza, Alexandria,/Salonika, Budapest, Vienna, Cologne”, and boxed “First Day/of Issue of/Air Mail Stamps” handstamp (repeated on reverse; red-white-blue “Avail Air Mails/and/Save Time” and blue-and-white “Air Mail” labels on front; reverse signed G. Grant and Stephen H. Smith (both dated 4 November), and J.D. Lingham (addressee in London, 21.11.29); snaking inch-long tear at left (through FDI handstamp), plus vertical crease and vertical fold not affecting stamps, still Very Fine overall, one of three covers known to exist.
