Victoria 1860, 1d “Emblems” yellow-green on paper made by T.H.Saunders of London watermarked “ONE PENNY” pair (sound) tied by numeral on complete Newspaper “GERMANIA ALLGEMEINE DEUTSCHE ZEITUNG FÜR AUSTRALIEN / Melbourne 5 Juli 1861” (4 pages, some wear were folded, otherwise in fine condition) sent to “Luisa Fiene, Celle, KÖNIGREICH HANNOVER, Germany” via Southampton with transit handstamps “LONDON PAID SP 20 61”, “AUS ENGLAND PER AACHEN” and “CELLE 22.9” arrival. Unrecorded in the outstanding Ben Palmer handbook, it is the ONLY KNOWN EXAMPLE OF A PRINTED MATTER OR NEWSPAPER SENT TO GERMANY PRE 1891!
