Mauritius 1848 Queen Victoria 2d. blue, EARLIEST IMPRESSION, used on folded cover from Port Louis (dated 4th April 1849) to Bordeaux (FAMOUS VEILLON CORRESPONDENCE) per “Collingwood” via Greenock, London and Boulogne-Sur-Mer, tied by superb strike of circle of bars (Proud K1, early usage), large double circle “MAURITIUS POST OFFICE/AP 07/1849”, black two-liner “GREENOCK/SHIP LETTER”, France arrival cds, French boxed ‘Colonies …’ h/s in red and charge marks on front, British transit datestamps and Bordeaux '21 July 1849’ arrival dater on the reverse. The fresh stamp with even huge margins all round used on an interesting Mauritius-Scotland-England-France cover. A MOST OUTSTANDING AND ATTRACTIVE COVER WITH A SUPERB STAMP FROM THE EARLIEST IMPRESSION - according to the Kanai Handbook ONLY 4 covers recorded - this one is the FINEST - even finer than the famous cover from the Caspary collection (same correspondence). Various signatures and certified by Bottacchi (2016) and the Royal Phil. Soc., London (1953).
